Itinerary description
Beautiful track to drive over a few days. You’re never really forced to drive through dune field, but there are plenty of opportunities! We combined some less frequented tracks and didn’t meet anyone for the largest part of the track. Reduced air pressure, never needed
low range with our Pajero 2005, 2,5t 3.2l Diesel.
The beginning of the track after leaving Mhamid is through a riverbed with many bigger stones. It’s a little annoying, especially with only 22cm ground clearance, but all okey if driven a little careful.
The riverbed is left behind and there are some parts with quite deep bulldust!!
After that mostly along the outskirts of dunefields. We decided to spend 2 nights in the dunes of Erg Zaher & Erg Chigaga.
After that you cross a dried out riverbed. After rain maybe not so good, otherwise no problem! From here the track is regularly frequented and quite some corrugations. If we wouldn’t have gone to the oasis we would have rather taken a different track…
Beautiful stop: the oasis! We stayed for two nights, some other overlanders also stayed there. (29.9261452, -6.8300595)
The fuel station in Mhamid only has fuel in bottles, it’s safest to fuel up in Zagora & buy food. Zagora is the “Sahara offroad tour starting point”, and quite touristy/ not nice, but has everything one needs. There’s a fuel station in Tagounite too, but wouldn’t want to depend on it working…
