Itinerary description
Something one probably wants to do when staying in Mbotyi is visiting Magwa Falls. The whole area has such an authentic rural flavor. Cattle walking free all over the place, the sound of the Indian Ocean, the smell of home fires and fishermen offering the catch of the morning. That’s disconnecting from the city. The Mbotyi River Lodge offers a number of activities to engage with nature.
The route to Magwa Falls goes through a leafy rainforest and the Magwa tea plantation. The road through the rainforest is a bit winding, immersed in a sea of trees. One can hardly see the sky. Just beautiful driving here.
Once at Magwa Falls, a bunch of kids from near villages are offering they services to guide visitors and take them to the best view point to see the waterfalls. Even if their guidance is not really needed, it is nice to bring some treats for them. The waterfall is stunning. Going during the rainy season is advisable in order to see a breathtaking natural feature.
Beware of this is an African tick bite fever (ATBF) area. Symptoms may include fever, headache, muscles pains, and a rash. At the site of the bite there is typically a red skin sore with a dark center. Onset usually occur 4–10 days after the bite.
