Itinerary description
Agadir (Berber: Agadir, ⴰⴳⴰⴷⵉⵔ; Moroccan Arabic: اگادير) is a major city in central coastal Morocco, the capital of Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane province (MA-AGD) and of the Souss-Massa-Drâa economic region some 508 km to the south of Casablanca, 173 km from Essaouira and 235 km to the west of Marrakech.
Destroyed by earthquake in 1960, the city has been completely rebuilt with mandatory seismic standards. It is now the largest seaside resort in Morocco, where foreign tourists and many residents are attracted by an unusually mild year-round climate.
Sidi Ifni (Arabic: سيدي إفني) is a city located in southwest Morocco, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Ait Baamran tribe has long inhabited the small town and the region surrounding it. They worked in husbandry and traded with Europeans and northern Morocco being intermediaries in the trans-Saharan trade.
In 1476, an enclave in the region of present-day Sidi Ifni was occupied by Spain, which named its settlement there Santa Cruz de la Mar Pequeña. It remained in Spanish hands until 1524 when it was captured by Saadian rulers.
Until 1952, Ifni region had the status of a protectorate. In this year, the region became part of Spanish West Africa (entity that grouped the colonies of Spanish Sahara and Cape Juby, with its capital defined in Villa Bens—Tarfaya nowadays—in Morocco). In 1969, mostly due to international pressure, Spain relinquished Sidi Ifni to Morocco.

FYI, The original fisherie and slave post named Santa Cruz de la Mar Pequeña is located further south. Exactly by the shores os The National Park Khenifiss or Laguna de Naila, not far from Tarfaya. Spain claimed Ifni under a wrong argument, as our first settlement was located further South. Whether Spain was aware of such fact or not, it remains unknown.
