Itinerary description
Lemek Conservancy 01
Game drive in Lemek Conservancy, Mara, Kenya
This is relatively a new Conservancy in the Masai Mara created in 2009
Formerly known as Koyaiki Lemek Conservation Area. The conservancy is based on a partnership between Landowners, existing camps and lodges and Great Plains.
BACKGROUND
Masai Mara North Conservancy was established 2007 when a group of hotel lodge and camp owners formed the organization with a goal of uniting all the Masai landowners & tourism partners operating within the confines of the Koyaiki Lemek conservation area.
Great Plains Conservation was established by a group of well known people from the industry. Great Plains and Masai Mara North Conservancy share similar conservation ideas and have decided to work together to create the best game viewing area in all of Africa.
THE AREA
The +32,000 Ha conservation area, lying on the northern boundary of the Masai Mara National Reserve, is rich with wildlife and include sites such as the world famous “Leopard Gorge.” This land formerly belonged to two Group Ranches (Koyaiki & Lemek) and was subdivided into private titles earlier. Along with other threatened areas in Kenya and East Africa this area faces some challenges which need to be addressed by professional conservation management.
