Zavižan
Zavižan is one of the best-known localities in the Northern Velebit National Park. Located at 1594 m above sea level, underneath the Vučjak peak, is the mountain hut Zavižan and the oldest high-altitude weather station in Croatia, established in 1953. Since Velebit forms a natural border between continental and Mediterranean regions of Croatia, two different climates clash at its uppermost parts – the maritime and the continental climates - resulting in unpredictable weather conditions. This makes the Zavižan weather station invaluable to the meteorological community. The Zavižan mountain hut was built on the foundations of Krajačeva Kuća (Krajač's house), which dates back to 1927. The Krajačeva Kuća collapsed during the Second World War, and in 1951 the Croatian Mountaineering Association, supported by mountaineers from the town of Senj, started the construction of a new mountain hut which was open on 27 July 1953.

Krasno
Lying on the northern slopes of the Velebit at about 800 m above sea level within the Velebit Nature Park, Krasno is one of Croatia's largest mountain villages. It comprises fourteen hamlets scattered around the picturesque Krasno Valley that is flanked on all sides by high wooded cliffs and peaks. The hamlets are typically named after family names of people inhabiting them: Ivetići, Vukelići, Glavaši, Anići, Dujmišići etc. Owing to its specific location and altitude, snow is a regular occurrence in Krasno and the snow cover normally persists long into the winter. Administratively, it belongs to the district of Senj and the Lika-Senj County. Running through the village is a road connection between Sveti Juraj (23 km) and Otočac (22 km), which connects the coastal regions with the inland region of Lika.
KUTEREVO
BEARS IN KUTEREVO The Kuterevo Bear Refuge was founded in 2002 and ever since then bears are the main attraction in the village. Right now, the refuge hosts 8 bears, 2 of which are coming from a Zoo and the rest lost their mothers during their first year of life and thus had no chance of survival in the wild.
