Iceland South - Route 1 - Heinabergsjökull
View of Heinabergsjökull Glacier
Heinabergsjökull is an outlet glacier on the southeast side of the Vatnajökull ice cap in southeast Iceland. The glacier is associated with two ice-dammed lakes, one active and one fossil, as well as a proglacial lake. The contemporary ice-dammed lake is located in the ice-free valley of Vatnsdalur, while the fossil example (Dalvatn) is located in the valley of Heinabergsdalur, close to the current ice margin
