Itinerary description
I was traveling with the family and we split the route into two parts to spend the night in our own roof tent in the desert.
From Foum Zguid you start on a rocky slope - partly corrugated.
when you reach Lake Iriki it becomes more pleasant. a flat plane. the track gets lost here. if you want more sand, you should choose a track along the dunes. we stayed on the flat lake.
After about 1/3 of the entire route, the entry into the dunes of Erg Chegaga begins. There is a clear track here and depending on the time you have to expect oncoming traffic.
we looked for a spot next to the piste, not too far from the piste. since we arrived around 5 pm there was no traffic, just silence. The kids played in the sand and collected and observed insects. we had a beautiful sunset - all to ourselves.
but in the morning you can hear the first off-roaders from about 10 a.m. if you stay near the track. but didn't bother us.
on the second day we started the second half of the tour in the morning. First it's easy to continue on the clear track through the sand. In the last third, the track gets lost here so that we have orientated ourselves via GPS. so we had to drive through the erg on seldom partly blown tracks over larger sand dunes.
that was a bit more adventurous - but that's why you do it.
with less pressure in the 4x4 and off-road reduction, no problem.
at the end we found a clear track again and it was easy to continue.
Overnight stay:
before the tour at the Hotel Bab Rimal a little outside. Very nice complex with a top pool, with an area for kids. Very clean and large family room. Bathroom/toilet maintained and good pressure on the hot water.
Dinner and breakfast there is a buffet (Moroccan) quality is good. for a very good it is unfortunately not Gold enough.
in Mhamid we stayed at the hotel kasbah sahara services. Also here with a pool but without a kids zone in it. Nevertheless, the right thing after the desert. Toilet, room etc. everything was clean and good. unfortunately optically not quite as nice as in the Bab Rimal.
But the food here is very good and we had a top service including a small private tour through the Kasbah of Mhamid.
