Itinerary description

This track describes my trip to the volcanic eruption in Fimmvörðuháls in the spring of 2010. Please do not assume that following the track is safe - glaciers change from day to day. The eruption also changes (this is written just after a new fissure opened) so again the utmost care must be taken.

Waypoints

PictographPanorama Altitude 3,346 ft

Outlook 1

This is an ideal place to observe the eruption in the original crater.

PictographPanorama Altitude 3,491 ft

Outlook 2

I am told that you can see the new fissure from this location - we were chased out of the area before I could verify that :-)

PictographPanorama Altitude 0 ft

Outlook 3

A great spot for watching lava falls cascading into the Hrunárgil gully.
