Itinerary description

This is an offroading expedition taking place on high altitudes and on an alpine terrain. Attempting it is a high risk for your car and your safety so precaution sound be taken. Try this trail if you have competent offroading tyres (at least 80% offroading capable).
DO NOT TRY THIS TRAIL WITH RAIN ON ANY DIRECTION OF THE TRAIL!
This trail doesn't take place on any kind of road so slippery conditions will go to extreme levels if one attempts this one on rainy weather. Actually best conditions are dry weather for at least 2 days prior to the ascent or descent.
DO NOT ATTEMPT SUCH TRAILS ALONE!
Small part of the GPS trail is missing (see the strangely straight line of the trail in the map) but that part of the trail can be discovered with small risk of accident.
lockers or esp traction system is highly advisable.
Best period to go for this trail is summer time.
The surprise of the trip is the lack and for those brave enough a swim is a very good payback! 😁 (do expect the unexpected... as the lake is extremely cold even in summer time)
Stay safe and enjoy! ;-)

Nice trail. We do similar runs here in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada. Is off-roading/overlanding a big thing now in Greece?

It used to be when I did this trail...
Covid effected a lot things here in Greece as well but I should think things are gradually getting back to normal again.
    (Sorry for the late reply)

Hi Rocky, thanks for the trail and the nice fotos, too! I will go to greece in September with my Unimog and I would like to try this. On the fotos all of the terrain looks very wide. Is there any point where the vehicle should be small/not wide? Unimog is ~2,3 m wide. I guess height (3 m) and length (~6m) shouldnt be a problem.

    Hello Hans!
I would just like to say that this trail is completely off road on a mountainside; there are no tracks, footpaths, trails etc.
This means the terrain might change in an unexpected manner because of rain moving the gourd and the trail might not be 100% accessible.
It is been a while since I did this trail so I don't know what is the condition of the trail right now.
I don't think that the vehicle's width or length is a problem when we take in account Unimog's capabilities but I can't be sure that the weight of the vehicle will not be a problem as you go climb up steep and off-camber mountain. Traction is a problem in this trail. This is why on my main description I suggest that this trail should not be attempted with rain. Actually also a wet terain (after rain) might also be a serious problem.
When I did this trail I was with a team of vehicles and I think this is very important incase you need help. Slopes are very steep and if you slide on them you can lose the vehicle easily. In case of failure or catastrophic damage there will be no road service assistance that can reach you.
In my case the guide took responsibility on the success of completing the trail and the safety of the vehicles. On some parts the team would have to walk on foot to find a side of the mountain with light slopes.
If you attempt this trail without a team be extra careful and take full responsibility of attempting it alone plus it would be helpful if you have experience on similar trails. All the trail is grass land and a little mud. There is no stone part.

    Hi Rocky,
thank you very much for the detailled answer! One thing that is very clear to me is to only try this if its 100% dry and the forecast is sun only for the next two days. I dont have much concern regarding steepness, offroady tyres are new and generally provide pretty good grip on (dry ;) ) grass. Unimog does climb pretty well in general. Off-camber could be more of an issue. I know from personal experience that 33° is possible with my vehicle, have not tested more. I think i might just try and stop and reverse as soon as things get critical. I hear your concern about doing it alone. Dont wanna roll down that mountain :)
Thanks again for sharing the trail and answering!
