DAY 2 - Ásgarður to Landmannalaugar
From km 0,5, road disappears and becomes just car tracks with poles on the side which you have to follow. The scenery is amazing for the first part of the day (well... it is all amazing, but this part is really cool). Today you'll cross tens of rivers (the majority quiet small) but there are 2 or 3 major ones.
Rivers and water all day from start of track. Just follow track, the beginning is a bit rough, it gets better later, but you won't find any car today probably, we only found 1. Follow track (avg speed is like 25/30 kmh) and take pictures along the way until you reach tarmac, many many many kms away. You will find a wooden bridge just after you hit tarmac (take a cool pic). A few kms later there's a GAS Station in Hrauneyjar, you can also sleep there but it's a little expensive (like 60€ for 2 pers).
Fill car to max. Proceed to Landmannalaugar and sleep there. You can either camp or stay in the cottage.
We were planning to camp but it rained and it was windy. Cottage was full, and the guy from the Bus-Shop (typical from Landmannalaugar) let us stay inside the bus for free where we even had a stove.
Once you are settled, go to the river, boiling water comes out of the mountain and you can bathe in it. Amazing experience. Eat and sleep.

Welcome to Iceland petrocampers, this is the trip @petrocamp prepared and did on Sept 2015 for 5 days with a Land Rover (super)Defender. We used the app MOTION-X GPS to navigate, it is what works best for us (if you have an iPad Mini [Wifi+3G] it’s a kickass combination). Hope this helps you plan your trip to Iceland!
