Itinerary description
The trail (FR-815) to Clear Lake is located off the Mineral Creek Road FR-585 (CR-7), the road to the Bandora Mine and South Park, not far from the South Mineral Campground. This short moderate rated trail rises almost 2,170 feet in 4.6 miles. The trail starts out as a smooth dirt road and as elevation is gained, the trail becomes rocky, narrower and a bit more challenging. As the trail switchbacks up it emerges above tree line as it climbs towards the lake.
A high clearance 4x4 is recommended although we did see 2WD with high clearance vehicles on the trail. As with most roads in the area it should be avoided in wet weather. The deep turquoise alpine lake is in a beautiful setting surrounded with high peaks.
