Itinerary description
A nice jeep trail from the Cottonwood visitor center to the I 10.
The part up to point "Thermal Canyon Road" goes slightly up and down into Pinkham Canyon following some sandy washes.
The road is a sometimes a bit rocky, but fairly easy to drive up to "Thermal Canyon Road" (Unmarked ?).
Past this point the trail follows the canyon that is more narrow.
Some rocks may challenge your ground clearance. We drove a Toyota RAV 4, and could make it, although we had not too much clearance to spare in the rocky part.
The last part is filled with small rocks.
As you leave the park, turn left and left on a wide well maintained road, up to the frontage road.
You could drive the trail in the opposite direction. That way you get the most challenging parts first. It's alway a problem to turn around just before the end.
The only problem with doing so, is that you have to go uphill on the sometimes very sandy road.
Not that our 4x4 complained at any moment.
All in all a very scenic ride.
