Itinerary description
More Anza Borrego Hiking
The road leading into the Rockhouse Canyon.
Drive the Rockhouse Tr. (aspalt), that turns into a wide, good dirt road.
The road leads to the left (west) side of the canyon.
This is where you have to cross the dry lake. Only a short stretch, but can be wet, weeks after rain and impossible to pass.
Some years the dry lake is even filled with some water.
Follow the signs Rockhouse (canyon). S22 Mile 26.3.
The road gets narrow, rocky but mostly sandy with some rocks sticking out.
At the signed junction, turn right into the rockhouse canyon.
The first 0.4 mile is still easy, but after that, you hit a couple of rocky stretches.
They where close to the limit of our street SUV with 4x4.
At the point where we parked, the road crosses the wash again, with some nasty rocks.
After that the road is real easy, mostly sand.
Probably a piece of cake for a real off road vehicle, but we decided to hike.
From the last junction on, you can just drive a bit faster than you could hike.
Bring in plenty of water, because you may be the only driver on the road.
From the Highway S22 - T Crossing: 11.1 Mile
From the T Crossing to point park: 1.4 Mile (23 minutes one way)
From the T Crossing to point end: 1.8 Mile
Driving time 51 Minutes (one way) up to point park.
