Itinerary description
The Blidinje Nature Park is located on a large area, covering the area of the mountain chains Čvrsnica, Čabulja and Vran and the municipalities of Posušje, Tomislavgrad, Prozor-Rama and Jablanica. Due to its favorable geomorphologic features and beautiful landscapes, the area has been designated as a nature park in March 30th 1995.
This park is a unique natural phenomenon, which includes many endemic species of flora and fauna with a lot of sources of clean, drinkable water. It is known as one of the largest habitats of endemic white bark pine.
Blidinje Nature Park was named after Blidinje Lake, which is located at the bottom of the place called Dugo Polje (long field) at a height of 1184 meters above sea level. Lake area is about six square kilometers with a relatively shallow depth, while the water in the lake comes primarily from the surrounding mountains Vran and Čvrsnica with spring when the snow melts. The most famous landmarks of this special park, along the lake, are rich archaeological sites, particularly necropolis with 150 tombstones in Dugo polje, which has been designated as National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina in January, 2004.
