Itinerary description
The Mineral Creek Road (FR-585/CR-7) located off US-550, west of Silverton, is an easy drive on a graded gravel road as far as the campground after which the road becomes rockier and requires a high clearance 4WD . The road travels through stunning mountain scenery, with waterfalls, the abandoned Bandora Mine and ends at South Park. The road is not suitable for 2WD vehicles. Do not attempt in wet weather.
In 1882 gold was discovered in South Mineral Creek and the mine was built on the northern slope of Fuller Peak. After exploring the mine ruins continue to the end of the road to a large parking area and explore on foot the open alpine meadow at South Park.
