Itinerary description
Starting at the impressive abandoned ghost town of Animas Forks the road follows the Animas River to Silverton. While not technically difficult and mostly graded, there are some rocky spots and a high 4WD vehicle is advised. With caution, a 2WD with high clearance may be adequate. Take your time exploring Animas Forks and it's many abandoned houses and buildings. Many of the buildings have informational panels.
4.4 miles from Animas Forks is the abandoned mining town of Eureka where the only remaining structure is the jail which has been restored. Only the foundations of the Sunnyside Mill remain.
