2nd Stage: Jebel Shams - Wadi Ghul - Ramlat Wahiba
Total: 325 km
Asphalt: 270 km
Track: 55 km
Total time: 7:20 h.
Moving time: 5:32 h.
In this second stage of GAMSB22 we were considering the possibility of going up the track to the Jebel Shams peak (25 km round trip) to see the panoramic view from there, but to save time we decided to go to the Grand Canyon viewpoint that was closer. . This first objective of the day turned out to be a stunning location with breathtaking views of the Wadi Ghul canyon. After this first stop we went straight to travel the 7.5 km of the Wadi Ghul inland. It is a highly recommended track to do if you are in the area. It does not contain any difficulty and the place more than rewards doing the complete round trip through its narrow gorges. It will remain for us like the Omani "Todra".
After the tour of the wadi we had planned to visit Nizwa, but having to end the day along sand tracks and dunes that we did not know, we decided to go directly to the camp where we would spend the night. Before entering the great sandy area of Wahiba we had to fill the cars with fuel to the top, since in total between today's route and the next day's route there were 150 km of sand before returning to the asphalt. We stopped at the gas station before reaching the town of Bidiyah since we had been informed that at the town's gas station there were local guides hunting and capturing tourists to take you for a few rials to wherever you were going. As it was, when we were arriving at Bidiyah, a local car made several reckless overtakes with all 4 indicators on, asking us to stop. At his insistence, we stopped on the shoulder and reproached him for his attitude. He claimed he just wanted to say hello and see if we needed help... for a moment we felt at home arriving in Zagora hahahaha!
After this episode, we took the 35 km track with the uncertainty of whether or not it would be necessary to deflate the tires. We decided to continue forward and just when we had to climb a steep slope of dunes we stopped to leave the pressures at 1 Bar, more than enough for the type of compact dunes and the power of the cars driven here. The 2.5 km of dunes are easily done since we sense that there are always ruts around here that take you to the Thousand Nights Camp.
We arrived at the camp early, around 4 in the afternoon, which gave us time to enjoy a quad route around the surroundings at sunset. Dinner at the resort was spectacular, Arabic food based on vegetables, different types of smoke and meat barbecue. A complete day with a dream ending.
