Itinerary description
A day trip that combined a paddle with a short hike, in and around Buck Lake (mostly North Bay portion of the lake). A beautiful September day and we decided to check out the area including the Frontenac Park campsite at the south end of the lake. Put in was fairly straight forward, there is a boat ramp and a public dock with roadside parking on Perth Road (#10) after you have unloaded. A culvert allows you to paddle under the road and was large enough to accommodate some power boats.
Just north of the campsite is a portage trail that takes you over to Slide Lake and a scenic loop trail that goes around the lake. We hiked it to a nice spot on the west side and after a short break returned on the same path to our kayaks. If you are looking to extend your day you could hike the full lap around the lake (would add 6-7 km).
We returned to the culvert/boat launch and then did a short paddle into the South Bay portion of Buck Lake (it really seems like two different lakes). There was a strong wind from the south so we didn't venture very far on this surprisingly large lake.
Great day after recovering from numerous slip ups (left my drinking water on the kitchen table) but fun was had.

Waypoints
Campsite
332 ft
Frontenac Provincial Park campsite #1
Nobody spotted at the campsites, they weren't the best the park has to offer (reedy shoreline, east exposure).
Intersection
393 ft
Portage trail
Had trouble finding this paddling southbound, but fairly noticeable coming back from campsite #1. Short hike to Slide Lake approx 80 meters, and to the intersection with the loop trail that circles the lake.
Panorama
421 ft
Lookout
Partially hidden lookout that gives you partial views of Buck Lake. Some interesting geology going on here.
