Itinerary description

The Zugspitze is Germany's highest mountain, with 2.952 msl not really a challenge for high altitude climbers. Nevertheless this little climb to the top of the Zugspitze is worth getting up early and walking 55 kms in one setting. You will be rewarded with wonderful views.
Start early (6am) at the parking lot in Partenkirchen, walk 16 kms to the Reintalhütte, following a lush path through the Reintal. Avoid the Partnachklamm, it's closed before 8am (and after 7pm).
When you have reached the Reintalhütte, the climbing begins, but simply follow a very nice, easy path to the Knorrhütte, from there head left towards the Zugspitzplatt, and finally climb the last 300 meters to the top of mountain. Relish a few moments of solidarity under the golden cross on the summit, eat a Leberkäse in the restaurant before heading back the same way. (or, descent via the Höllental or Eibsee).

Do you think its a good idea to camp up there?

No, may be possible to camp near the Reintalangerhütte (1370 m). I don't know if it's allowed.
You can stay overnight in the Reintalangerhütte after prior registration. I guess the Knorrhütte (1959 m) is still closed.
