Hike up to Kaldbakur through Meðaldalur
Difficult for flatvalley hikers
Moderate for experienced mountain hikers
Start where the old field track meets the road on the eastern side of the valley. Walk 30 min on the track, then 30 min on a sheep path where the track crosses the river, then again 45 min on the old track again which leeds now up the hill to an old mine. Turn southwest over grass- and heathland. Now the steep ascent begins. In begin of juli there can be a lot of snowfields. The ground consists of loose stones and earth sometimes very wet and soft because of snow melting. Right beneath the saddle it is most difficult due to snow and very loose ground. Take care of rock slide. The rest to the top is easy. We stopped slightly under the top because of heavy clouds.
