Itinerary description

A tough day out, walking between two mountain hut and crossing the Niederbrunnsulzen pass. The area around the Niederbrunnsulzenscharte is within the "stone sea" zone - bizarre rock formation as the trail climbs above stones and boulders. Much of the high trail near the pass was still under a lot of snow in early July, making it hard to navigate (I used GPS blindly when trail markers disappeared). The first part of the trail climbs above Wasseralm through shallow forest with great views of the area. Gradually the terrain becomes rougher as the trail crosses the border to Austria and into the stone sea towards the pass and literally inside snow and clouds. Beyond the pass the descent is much easier. I took a side trip to the Feldkogel for views of the Konigsee before continuing to Karlingerhaus.
