Itinerary description
The Antofalla Volcano is a huge volcano located in the province of Catamarca in Argentina with almost 6500 meters of altitude.
Despite being very little climbed, it is more or less famous for having at its summit a beautiful Incaic ceremonial platform built by the conquerors of the mountain, the Incas.
Its access is through the village of Antofalla, where about 40 people must live.
From there take a road north and watch out where you leave the main road and start the 4x4 track to the base of the mountain.
The two times I have been there I did not find a safe way to get to the base camp of the mountain which is next to a dry river. This camp is comfortable but there is no water.
The ascent is very long and difficult. Be patient and acclimatized, otherwise you won't get there. It is a mountain of physical resistance that when you are exhausted and it seems that you have arrived, you actually reach a false summit.
