Trekking Everest Base Camp 9. Dzonglha (4830 m) - Gorakshep (5140 m)
The time has come to place ourselves at the foot of the great mountains. We begin another of the important stages of the trek. We headed to the small town of Gorakshep. This is the last town or village before the base camp. The highest point where we are going to sleep.
Certainly the loss caused by the altitude in each one is perceived in the whole group. Colds, headaches, tiredness appear. It is even evident how in the soup kitchen all the people who do the trekking are more calm, thoughtful and without making a big fuss.
The route has an interesting climb profile to which we have to add the difficulty imposed by the altitude. We start from Dzonglha following a beautiful path bordering the Chola Tsho lake, located at the foot of Cholatse. Certainly this mountain has a special charm.
We have about two and a half hours with a progressive ascent profile and with beautiful views of the Chola glacier. A high mountain sensation.
As we go around an enormous mass called Nangkar, we come face to face with the famous Khumbu Glacier, the main entrance to Everest Base Camp. We ascend until we find the path that goes down to Tengboche. This one we will take back.
We ascend a few meters until we find ourselves after almost three hours with the population of Lobuche. This is located on the edge of the Glacier, more specifically in the lower part. And it is a small town with some shops and several Lodges, some of which are quite interesting and very welcoming.
Now on the left side of the glacier we have an important ascent of an hour and a half until we reach the upper part of Gorakshep, from here we have a descent to the village. This section, either due to the height or fatigue, becomes long and tedious. It is common to see hikers sitting down resting. The pulsations here are accelerated.
Some of the mountains that we can enjoy are: Pumori, Lingtren, Khumbutse and part of Nuptse.
This is the refuge where everything is more expensive, water is around 4 euros, charging mobile phone batteries and GPS is quite expensive and the refuge is not bad, but it is very large and very crowded.
