Trekking Everest Base Camp 7. Gokyo (4750 m) - Thanang (4640 m)

If we were able to climb to the top of Gokyo the day before, as we have already commented on the previous day, today's walk is very calm. It is an ideal stage to recover the effort made the day before. This consists of crossing the Ngozumba glacier.

The Ngozumpa Glacier in Nepal runs at the foot of the sixth highest mountain in the world, Cho Oyo. In turn, this glacier feeds the Dudh Koshi Nadi river, which is the driving axis throughout the entire route of the first part of the trekking.

It is far from the most beautiful glacier to see. Unlike. It is squashed in a layer of rocky rubble that falls from the surrounding walls, giving it a very gray and barren appearance. Although for us it is a completely different day due to the peculiarity of the terrain and of course the fact of walking on sand on top of a huge block of ice.

Some of the mountains that accompany us along the route are Cholatse and Taboche, somewhat further behind the Kangtega and Thamserku.

The route is not very difficult, we begin with a gentle ascent until we reach the edge of the glacier, from here we now begin to descend along a sandy path, indicated along the entire length of the glacier by stone mounds.

Both at the entrance and exit of the glacier we will see some prayer flags, which indicate the entrance and exit of it.

Once we have crossed it, we have a small climb to leave Ngozumpa and we meet the path that in a few meters takes us to the small village of Thanganks. This will not have more than 6 or 7 lodges and the aridity and hardness of the terrain is noticeable.

Here the price of water is already high and the temperature in this area begins to be lower. The lodge is not bad, the food is quite good and the rooms are correct. The temperature in this valley drops considerably at nightfall.
