Trekking Everest Base Camp 5. Phortse Tenga (3575 m) - Machermo (4375 m)
From my humble point of view I think that up to this day the trekking has been a pleasant walk, but from now on the moment of truth begins. We have already passed the barrier of four thousand meters and what is more important, we are going to sleep all the time above this altitude.
From this moment the real trekking begins and of course the hard days. In the post with the general information regarding trekking, I give my opinion about the organization of the days but I think that it goes from a pleasant walk to doing very physically demanding stages.
Well, the day begins ascending through the forest, a beautiful path that goes up progressively. We leave the river and of course Phortse on the other side of the valley. We have a good ascent passing through the towns of Dhole, Lhabarma and shortly before reaching Machermo we find the town of Luza that has a beautiful stupa.
Once the town of Dhole and a significant climb have been passed, the forest disappears to remain the stamp of high mountains, absent of vegetation and the arid terrain and of course the great peaks take on importance.
We have a demanding section of ascent through rocky terrain until we reach the top where we have Machermo at our feet. Where we descend to what looks like a curious town surrounded by mountains.
Here the climatic conditions worsen, the weather is much colder and everything begins to become more expensive. A recommendation to save a few euros and help the people of the area would be to go to a store that is around the lodges, since buying water and sweets is usually cheaper than in the lodge itself.
As has been the custom these days, we have taken advantage of the afternoon to take a short walk and we have climbed a beautiful hill that has important views. A beautiful place but that in the middle of the afternoon everything has been covered in fog in a matter of minutes.
