Everest Base Camp Trek 13. Chukhung to Island Peak Base Camp
Very pleasant acclimatization, at 4,700 m. After breakfast, we left the lodge and took the path to the left. Several signs indicate the way to the Island Peak.
It is a marked path, which passes between the Ama Dablam, Chukhung and Lhotse Glaciers, towards the BC of Island Peak.
Eric Shipton in 1952 named the mountain Imja Tse (6,189 m) Island Peak, due to its appearance as an island in the middle of a sea of ice.
We came to where the path descended towards the lake. We did not want to continue to save strength. Being surrounded by these mountains is an amazing feeling.
We approached Base Camp where there were still tents and people climbing. After the photo session, we went back the way we had come.
As we descended towards Chukhung, we could see the KongMa La Pass at 5,535m. This is located between the mountains of Pokhalde and Khongma Tse.
The return we did by the same way up.
