Trekking Everest Base Camp 12. Dimboche (4400 m) - Chukkun (4700 m)
Totally ascent route from iDimboche to Chukhung, a settlement to approach the Islan Peak base camp or ascend from here to Chukhung Ri, which is 5,550.
In our case, the fact of going up to Chukhung makes the sense of trying to climb Islan Peak (6189 m). When we hired the trek, our first idea was to complete the route with this interesting icing. Last population before going up to the base camp of Island Peak.
The combination of both activities, trekking + Island Peak in the way that has been organized, I think is the most convenient.
Continuing with the route, from Dimboche we have a pleasant and short walk that takes us to Chukhung in less than two hours. The route runs along an ascending path along one side of the Imja Khola riverbed. Pleasant climb with Ama Dablam as the protagonist and Islam Peak in the background.
We advanced with the view of Ama Dablam on our right, always fascinating from any angle. We pass by a small stone house, nearby is a memorial to three great Polish mountaineers who lost their lives climbing Lhotse on its south face.
Chukhung is a town with quite a few lodges, as climbing Islam Peak is quite popular. The town is very cold and the altitude is very noticeable again. The settlement is surrounded by Nuptse, Lhotse, Hillary Peak, Shartse, Island Peak, Baruntse, Ama Dablam….
Chukhung is located at the northern end of the valley, where mountaineers come to acclimatize, as well as being the pass for one of the most popular climbs, the ascent of Island Peak.
From Chukhung there are 4 trails. One heads to Chukhung Ri (5,550 m), where you have the best view of the Lhotse walls and the Nuptse. Another path, to the Island Peak Base Camp that we will follow this afternoon to acclimatize. A third where we have come from Dingboche, and a fourth path that is the one we will follow the next day towards Lobuche crossing the Kongma La Pass (5,535 m).
The route does not have any technical difficulties. Comfortable path and progressive unevenness.
