Trekking Everest Base Camp 10. Gorakshep (5140m) - Everest Base Camp (5300m)
Once we have reached Gorakshep there are several options when facing the ascent to Base Camp and Kala Pattar.
The option that we have made is the following: we have arrived around 1:00 p.m., we have eaten and when we have finished eating, we have made the ascent to Base Camp. It is a progressive and quite bearable ascent, although I already tell you that all the kicks at this altitude cost their own.
We start by a huge esplanade where they tell us that it is normally a small lake in the direction of the Kombu glacier.
In an hour and a half, following a path on the left side of the glacier, we reached a small balcony right in front of the Kombhu waterfall.
Once we are at this point, we take a path down which places us on a small platform in the middle of the Glacier.
Certainly the ascent to base camp is not carried out as such. You simply go up to this platform where some prayer flags and a plate with the height of the place have been placed.
The true base camp is established on the other side of the glacier much closer to the Kombhu waterfall, where the climb to camp one begins. To this comment that in this month of November there are no expeditions to Everest and therefore there is no base camp.
The feeling we've had is that this is set up to play the part with the tourists, one thinks that we're going to go up to the camp where the great mountaineers are getting ready and it certainly has nothing to do with it.
For this reason, if we are short of energy and we have to leave one of these two climbs, I would discard the base camp to do the kala Pattar.
The afternoon is pleasant, we have been lucky because here the temperature drops considerably and today it is very comfortable enjoying the impressive views and taking hundreds of photos. Before us is the impressive Everest, the closest I imagine I will be in my entire life. To this we must add the walls of Nuptse with hanging glaciers, in short, an almost magical environment that absorbs you and leaves you engrossed.
The descent runs along the same path until reaching Gorakshep.
Remember that 6 km after going up to base camp, you have to climb 11 this morning, which makes today a physically demanding stage, we have almost 1,200 meters of cumulative unevenness, at 5,000 meters.
