Tour around the Mt. Kenya and ascension to the PTA. Lenana 4985m.
Entrance to Sirimon Gate and exit to Naromoru Gate.
From December 3 to 8, 2018

Road transport from Nairobi to Nanyuki and by track to SIRIMON GATE.

SIRIMON GATE STAGE 2650m - OLD MOSES CAMP 3360m
+ 763m / -20m 8.8km 2h11 '
Road for asphalted road.

Stage OLD MOSES CAMP 3360m - SHIPTON CAMP 4236m
+ 1036m / -163m 13.7km 5h39 '
Long hike, with several ascents and descents and with a long stretch without gaining height. It gets a bit heavy until, close to the Shipton Caves, it is definitely offset.

SHIPTON CAMP 4236m stage - MACKINDER CAMP 4200m
+ 576m / -654m 5.1km 3h41 '
Itinerary distracted and varied, fine. The climb to the Coll Hausberg 4591m is very heavy on its last stretch, which runs through a very loose crust.
The rest, with two more gains, is more comfortable and attractive.

MACKINDER CAMP 4200m stage - PTA. LENANA 4985m - MACKINDER CAMP 4200m
+ 835m / -813m 7.8km 5h27 '
Ascension to the PTA. Lenana 4985m, third level of the Massif of the Mt. Kenya, with Batian and Nelion as first and second tips, respectively. These two summits are more technical and demanding. The trekking agencies offer by default the PTA. Lenana.
Uncomplicated route to the Austrian Hut 4790m, a heightened refuge, comfortable in spite of being smaller and where water is not always easy to obtain.
From the Austrian Hut, the ridge is followed, equipped with quite a handrail to save certain stretches of cloth. On this occasion there was no need for helmets or crampons, but their need could not be ruled out.
To access the summit, you must climb a vertical section equipped with steps.
We are not lucky enough to see it and we do not see absolutely anything from the summit.
Downhill along the same path.

MACKINDER CAMP STEP 4200m - MET STATION CAMP 3050m
+ 33m / -1179m 10.6km 3h29 '
Misleading path. You leave the refuge for a very comfortable road that, after going down the valley, climbs a ridge very smoothly, to jump to the adjacent valley.
When you start the descent, you enter into a totally muddy, very unpleasant place to make, which becomes a real maze. Very heavy and endless.
Finally, you come to an asphalted track that drives us to the camp.

STATION MET STATION CAMP 3050m - NAROMORU GATE 2450m
+ 37m / -669m 9.6km 1h55 '
Road for asphalted road.

Transfer by track to the town of Naromoru and by road to Nairobi.

The data on the slope, mileage and hours are those of the Base Camp. The total route is: + 3278m / -3505m 55.1km
The heights of the waypoints (GPS) may not coincide with those referred to in this writing, written down on the map MOUNT KENYA 1: 50,000 Map & Guide
https://maps.ewpnet.com/maps.htm

Shelters are relatively comfortable, but cold. Everyone has light, except Mackinder. All have WC, more or less favored. There are no showers.
