The hiking part, although it is mostly above 5,000 m, is technically easy, but the ascent to the Gyama Pyramid Kangri, without being very difficult, due to the altitude and the slopes of snow and ice that reach 45-50º it is demanding and requires experience in high mountains, factors to which the altitude (6,300 m) must be added. We did this transit and ascension between July and August 2023.
Waypoints
Nuruchang Ri I 4909
We arrived in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, on Sunday 23 July 2023. We spent Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 touring this city, located at an altitude of 3,500 m, and visiting some of the nearby monasteries, such as those of Thiksey and Stakma. On Wednesday the 26th, after visiting the Hemis monastery, we were driven by car to Kartse and Rumse, where we set up the first camp (C1), at 4,170 m. There we did a first acclimatization walk in the afternoon. The next day, Thursday 27 July, we drove up the endless bends of Tangland La (5,328m). Snowing, we climbed a nearby peak, the Tangland Ri (5,385m). Then we went down to Debring and from there we were taken to Tso Kar, great salt lake. We took a walk along the shore there and they ended up approaching Nuruchang, where we installed the C2. From this place we would walk to Korzog. In the afternoon, to acclimatize further, we climbed two nearby mountains, the first of which was this one, Nuruchang Ri I.
Gyama Barma La 5485
In the afternoon, on a day of uncertain weather, I climb to the pass of Gyama Barma La, from which I command the whole valley and the Rushod. I would have liked to reach a nearby peak of 5,600 m that was close to me, but it starts to hail and I make a half turn towards the tents.
Kostse La 5410
Sunday July 30. We have to cross this other pass to go down the other side to the Gyama Sharma to cross the Gyama Sharma Chu, without problems. After Gyama Yogma we cross the mighty Chu Kyagar Nugma, this one with more difficulties. The dilated and shale Yalung Nong (6,080 and 6,050 m) always stands out in front, which to me from the first moment (saving the altitudinal differences) reminds me of the Carbassa, in Cerdanya, also with two peaks.

Gyama Camp Ri 5638
In the afternoon, once again to acclimatize, we climb a foothill of the Yalung Nong to the Gyama Camp Ri, a sensational viewpoint of this little-known sector of Ladakh, with nameless mountains full of glaciers. The Gyama group, where we are heading, stands out in the south. For the first time we see the Tso Moriri, a large lake where we will finish the crossing. I am left with the desire to reach the double summit of Yalung Nong, less than 1 hour from where we are.
Yalung Nyau Plateau 5709
In the afternoon, always with the aim of better acclimatization, I climb to the nearby Yalung Nyau Plateau. I also do it to take a closer look at the Gyama Pyramid Kangri and note the considerable inclination of its northeastern edge. Tomorrow will make us sweat bravely, for sure.
Gyama Pyramid Kangri 6300
We will always remember this Tuesday, July 1, 2023, the day that, not without effort, we managed to reach the top of the Gyama Pyramid Kangri, a beautiful mountain that culminates a long succession of peaks in the Korzog Range, above 6,000 m. The landscape to the south is lost in a long succession of Himalayan mountains which continue in a long line in an easterly direction, while to the north the plateaus and rounded peaks of Tibet attract attention. The Tso Moriri shines in the east.
C7 Korzog Sumdo 4620
This is where our journey on foot through Ladakh ends: a crossing from Nuruchang and the ascent to the Gyama Pyramid Kangri. The next day we will visit Korzog, its monastery and of course Tso Moriri, a large lake located at 4,500 m altitude. And in Leh we will still have one more day to buy things and get to know this city better.
