Itinerary description
This hike and climb leads to Stogoi Mountain (1825 m.).
I have first seen it when up in the heights above Vranisht village.
From there it looks like a big pyramidal cliff just in front of you.
And it really is, this mountain together with the mountain of Sevaster (Mali i Gribës) stand like the first two guards, opposite to each other, at the entrance of mountainous segment of Shushica Valley. Shushica River, also known as Lumi i Vlorës, is a tributary of Vjosa River.
This valley gives life to a special ethnographical region of Albania, which has served as a strongohold of albanian resistance against all invadors throughout the centuries.
Around Stogoi from the west to east are placed the villages of Tragjas, Dukat, Tërbaç, Lepenicë, Gjorm, Brataj.
Unfortunately there was a dense fog on the top, and you could only get a glimpse of the beauty that lies ahead of you. Otherwise, on a clear day, on the west, you can clearly spot the Ionian See, Karaburun peninsula, Sazan island, Qorre and Çika peaks.
On the east you could spot the high mountains near Kuç and Kurvelesh and the most memorable view the valley can offer.
There was some snow, but only on the last 300 metters. There is no water stream near the trail. The trail, at least in winter when the bushes are low, is quite clear with a lot of zigzags that make the climb easier. Nonetheless, there is an elevegation gain of at least 1300 m (depending on the point you deviate from the rural road to the trail, e.g near the quarry mines).
