Itinerary description
Started off from Reykjavik at 6 am and got to Snæfellsjökull Glacier about half eight just before sunrise. It was a bit clowdy in the beginning but as we approaced the summit the sky cleared and the view was outstanding, both to Breiðarfjörður bay to north and West-Fjords north of that and Faxaflói bay to south. All the Snæfellsnes peninsula to east, with it´s mountains. There was no wind but the temperature must have been somewhere between -15 to -20. Last time I went up there it was on a snowmobile 5-8 years ago and it is astonning to see how much the glacier has melted and decreased. Lots of cracks on this way but we were able to overtake them since it has snowed since summer, but one has to be careful and watch that step. Route was about 4hours of hiking, total time appr. 4:30 with rest stops, 14,7km
