MT. SHASTA CASAVAL RIDGE. This route is one of the most prominent and striking features on the south side of Mt. Shasta with Avalanche Gulch on the east side and Cascade Gulch on the west side. Many climbers rate this route as one of the most enjoyable routes on the mountain. The ridge offers low technical traverses across steep snow with a few sections of noticeable exposure. Day One – Bunny Flat Trailhead to Camp One, 6,800 – 9,800 feet elevation On April 5th, 2014, our spirits were awakened as we drove closer to the Bunny Flat trailhead. We worked together to dig out a platform for our tents and also fashioned a separate kitchen area. This took us all about four hours to complete. This forward thinking really proved effective as the afternoon went on. Mount Shasta didn’t wait long before she let us in on her secret … her unpredictable weather patterns...

The best view is when you can get up there in time to see the shadow of the mountain. That is impressive.
