Itinerary description
In Zermatt, take the cable car to Schwarzsee station. The trail starts from that point.
This trail takes us to the wall of the famous and iconic Matterhorn, just beyond the Hörnlihütte (hut belonging to the Swiss Alpine Club, and base camp for mountain climbing).
This hiking is not very easy, especially in the final part, where there are several exposed passages, with danger of falling and risk of death. Some slopes are very steep!
It's not exactly a "via ferrata", but there are plenty of steel cables, ropes, staples and stairs.
Anyway, it's the best way to get really close to the Matterhorn, and feel all the energy of that mountain.
