Itinerary description
The Nevado Quewar is one of the most impressive and beautiful mountains of the Puna in the Provincia de Salta in Argentina. From a distance it is just an isolated volcano with little snow, but the approach and ascent is of a magnificent landscape.
Quewar is one of the 6000m high mountains with archaeological ruins in Argentina. Almost at its summit there is a big and beautiful ruin, considered by archaeologist Cristian Vitry as a Vishnu, a ceremonial platform and symbol of the Incaic power.
The ascent can be made with two campsites starting from the village of Santa Rosa de Tastil. The first camp is in the valley, still quite green, in a real oasis. The second camp is in a higher region.
Acclimatized people can camp in the place marked Camp + Water, which can be reached in one long day of trekking and from there to the summit in one long day.
I, however, used the camp at 5300 meters, for the shorter distance to the summit. It might be difficult to find my camp, however you can dig in and organize your own camp.
