Itinerary description
Nevado El Toro is an emblematic mountain. Firstly because of its location, as it is the last mountain in the Central Andes and from its summit you can see the beginning of the Atacama Puna. After that, there is another interesting fact, because in the 1960s, an Inca mummy was found at its summit and finally there is another fact that draws attention: The Toro, from the Chilean side, has the longest approach of the entire Andes mountain range. .
Because of this last fact, when I was on the mountain in 2016, I ended up trying and managing to summit on the Argentine side, crossing Barrick Gold's Veladero Mine.
I cannot guarantee that any other climber will get permission to cross Mina Veladero. The mine employees told me that, since the mine existed, it was the first time that someone had passed through there to climb the mountain.
Anyway, here's the record.
