Itinerary description

The Nevado Condor is a mountain of almost 6500 meters of altitude. Whoever is in Laguna Verde, place commonly used as base camp of Ojos del Salado, can observe this beautiful and rare mountain in the horizon. Its access, however, is from the Argentine side.
Due to its isolation and difficulty of access, Condor was one of the last 6,000 Andes to be conquered, which only occurred in 2003 by Henry Barret and team, who also opened most of the 4x4 trails in the Puna.
Getting to Condor is tough and requires experience. It is always better to be in two vehicles, as the chance of something going wrong in one of the vehicles is great. I recommend the services of Johson Reynoso from Fiambalá, one of the most experienced drivers in the region.
The tracklog here shows the approach way from the international road and also the way to the summit, which is next to an escorial. Water on the Condor is only possible by melting penitentes.
Climbing this mountain is almost an exercise of exploration. Information is scarce and you need to be self sufficient.
