Itinerary description
Being more a bushwalker and less a climber this trip was somewhat terrifying but ultimately very rewarding. The day of the traverse was 14 hours long and as demanding as anything I have done before. Longest abseil was 55 m and the climbing was up to about grade 16. Weather was spectacular.

Hi Mark, I've had an idea (for a Tassie mini adventure) which may or may not be a good one (a traverse of the acropolis, Pine Valley Hut->Geryon Camp->Geryon/Acropolis saddle->UP THE NW RIDGE/ARETE of the acropolis?->down the usual track to Pine Valley Hut) and am asking for a little bit of feedback. (Your trip is the only one I've found the has tackled the NW ridge of the acropolis).
How difficult is the NW RIDGE/ARETE of the acropolis? Is it doable sans ropes? To give you a bit of a feel for where I'm at: I've summitted Federation & Mt Anne a few times and perhaps something that might be familiar to you been up Barney East from the lower portals via Barney gorge and back to LP via peasants ridge, I would after a deep breath go up the Nth peak of Geryon sans ropes (but that is probably the ceiling of what I'd attempt scrambling).
If you could spare a few moments to give me some feedback (dcoulson@) it would be greatly appreciated, sincerely dave coulson.
Hi David,
Sounds like a great adventure,
I don't know the area well,
Getting up to to the Geryon/Acropolis saddle is unknown to me, the sides of the valley are heavily lined with acacia that is to low to crawl under and too high to climb over and makes for hard going,
The NW ridge of Acropolis is very exposed but doable for experienced confident climbers,
I had the other guys belay me, but they all climbed without ropes,
This photo shows the SW ridge if you zoom in you'll see one of the other guys climbing and get a fair idea of the exposure,

I believe the route Garn and I took was just to the left off photo and was a little less exposed,
Below is another view of the ridge from further back along Mt Geryon
