Itinerary description
Maja e Hekurave is well know peak in the Geg Hysen region in Bajram Curri. The trail Start from Chust Nut Hill hotel. This is a small hotel but manage by very helpful people and a very good chef. The road to go to the hotel in a distance of 6 km is unpaved and you have to drive very slowly if you have a small car, better a 4x4 or SUV to be in safe side. From the hotel you can continued for 800 m and after that you have to be attention to find the best trail because in some places it is covered by small and medium bushes. After 2 km going up you catch an unpaved and tight road that can lead to the Ponari (Markaj) lake. Here the view is very beautiful. When you leave the lake, the trail goes in to the forest up and right. After leaving the forest the trail was covered by snow that become very hard after 600 m, so we have to use crampons and ice axe until we arrived in the top of the mountain for at least 2 km. Before reaching the peak the slope is around 60°-70° so you have to be very careful.
