Itinerary description
Klakkur stands on the edge of the Langjökull glacier. To do this hike you need a modified 4X4 car, the mountain track that leeds to the start of the hike is very difficult to drive, another option is to hike from the F338 road but that will add about 10 kilometers to the hike, you should not do this hike in bad weather, especally not on a dry windy day, the landscape is barren with a lot of rocks an sand. The hike starts to get difficult when you get closer to the glacier, there are high piles of rocks and small streams of water coming from the glacier, you should be able to avoid getting your feet wet by stepping on the rocks but when you get very close to the glacier you should put on your gaiters because the ground is soaked with water and the rocks will sink into the glacier mud when you step on them, best bet is to head straight to the mountain and move along its edges onto the glacier. When you get on the glacier walk behind the mountain and there you can start your hike up, there is a lot of loose rock, gravel and mud in the mountain and where the mountain and glacier meet there is ice underneath so you can easilly slide there so the going there is quite difficult
