Itinerary description

This rather long (ca. 25 km) circuit is "by the book" in that it duplicates the description in the book "Icelandic Mountains, hiking trails to 151 Peaks". There are certainly shorter alternatives available - the shortest would be to use the 4x4 track to Beinahóll. This longer route does however have the advantage of including both the Strýtur crater (Kjalhraun is a volcanic cone) and the Grettishellir cave. I therefore have no hesitation in recommending this route - but caution you to bring plenty of water - there is NONE to be had along the route. Click the title ("Kjalfell") above for some photos.
