Itinerary description
OK, so Innsta-Jarlhetta doesn't feature in the Book (its cousin Stóra-Jarlhetta does) but this is a beautiful mountain which I have long dreamt of climbing. We tried last spring (on skis from Bláfellsháls) but found the slopes too threatening (you got the impression that a cough would send them sliding) so we circled the mountain instead. This time there wasn't any snow to stop me - so I made it to the top! For you foreign lads and lasses - the "road" to the glacier's edge is a VERY rough track passable only in a modded 4x4 - expect to hike at least from the Skálpanes hut ("Klaki") if not from road 35.
Also note that while the lower slopes can probably be ascended from various directions, the last few metres are most likely blocked from all directions other than SW by a 10 metre vertical cliff face. Oh, and don't forget to peek through the "eye" close to the top.
