Itinerary description
There is no marked trail. Its easy to get to the Hlíðarfjall from the Ski Resort (you can take a "trail" going under a chair lift or just take a longer way going around) - starting on a right side, marked with red poles with big red dots.
Blatindur and Buga are moderate/easy to hike.
Ascent from Bunga to Stryta is difficult and dangerous in places. Ridge is pointed and full of loose rocks. Last climb up to the top is easier, route is full of big rocks.
Descent from Stryta is very steep, loose rocks, not solid ground.
Kista is not hard to climb up but descent is very steep and full of loose stones.
I haven't done it I had to return in 3/4 of the slope.
Make sure weather will be ok. Its better to don't carry a big backpack.

Hi. Any plans for doing that trail again in the near future? Kista sounds tempting ...
Thanks for your response. I did Blátinður multiple times in winter as back-country ski tours and always entertained the idea of climbing Kistufjall. So you would approach it from the south, basically from Glerárdalur? Isn't it less steep from Vindheimajökull? (Although cravesses could be tricky ...) Which ridge would take then?
