Itinerary description
The peak with the most impressive views in Dents du Midi, Haute Cime at 3257m. We took the southern path. Parked the car (very difficult to get there with public transportation, but not undoable) at Van d'en Haut, hiked up to Lac Salanfe with breathtaking views, then proceeded to the summit. The summit hike is quiet steep and of loose rock and the hikers ahead of you could drop rocks on you. I wore a helmet (granted I was the only one perhaps, but then I always wear a helmet on the mountains) and would recommend anyone to do the same on the final 300 meter summit hike. There is also a hut nearby Auberge de Salanfe if you want to divide the hike into two days. We climbed towards end-September and there was no snow, not even at the summit.
