Itinerary description
The Gran Paradiso (4061m) is the highest mountain entirely within Italy. The ascent of the Gran Paradiso is 1200m from the Vittorio Emanuele II hut (2780m) to the summit, so we wake up at 4:00 and started at 5:00 in a steady pace using an ice axe and crampon all the way. We kept our rhythm and didn't stop too much. The ascent took about 5 hours in total. there was a scary but easy traverse to get to the summit.
Going back down was harder work than we thought, but we got back to the hut around 14:00. Spending around 15 minutes at the hut then descending to yesterday's starting point at 2000m. Arriving around 17:00.
