DZO JONGO: Elur (350m. MD)

Dzo Jongo (6280m) North Face. Elur (350m. MD)

We settled our C1 (5670m) on a stony morraine in the middle of the glacier.
We climbed the initial snow slope built the first belay where I switched the GPS (I forgot to do it at the C1). We crossed the bergschrund without any real problems and we climbed the first pitch with very hard snow and good ice. In the next two pitches the snow was quite rotten making them hard to protect.
Then we reached a very hard sheet of ice and turned right looking for a very attractive thin goulotte that appeared to be in very good condition. At the end of this pitch, at the base of the last one, we found a very good belay on a ledge protected from possible rockfall.
We really enjoyed the last mixed pitch also. It was a bit tricky because of the quality of the rock. After the mixed section, an exposed rightwards traverse on very hard ice led us to the final overhang at around 6150m. We found ice and snow of up to 75°, finishing with a short 80° section and up to M4+ in mixed.
We continued the east ridge over some unstable bouldery terrain and at 15:30 we arrived at the summit. We descended by a ~45° northerly slope. We arrived at the base of our route already tired and finally, at around 18:00, we got to our tent. We named the route Elur after Oskar’s 5 years old son.

Establecimos nuestro C1 (5670m) en una morrena rocosa en la mitad del glaciar.
Escalamos el cono de nieve inicial que constituye el primer largo donde encendí el GPS (olvidé hacerlo en el C1). Cruzamos la rimaya sin dificultad y escalamos el primer largo de nieve muy dura y buen hielo.. Los siguientes dos largos la nieve estaba bastante podrida y era bastante difícil de proteger.
Entonces alcanzamos una plancha de hielo muy dura y nos dirigimos hacia la derecha a una goulotte muy atractiva que parecía estar en muy buenas condiciones. Al final de este largo, a la base del último largo, encontramos un buen lugar donde establecer la reunión protegida de la posible caída de piedras.
También disfrutamos mucho del último largo. Era un poco delicado debido a la calidad de la roca. Después de la sección de mixto, una travesía expuesta a derechas en hielo muy duro nos llevó a la cornisa somital a unos 6150m. Encontramos hielo y nieve hasta 75º con algunos tramos a 80º y hasta M4+ en mixto.
Continuamos la arista este sobre un terreno de bloques inestables y a las 15:30 llegamos a la cima. Descendimos por una pala de nieve de unos 45º. Llegamos a la base de la ruta realmente cansados y finalmente, hacia las 18:00, llegamos a nuestra tienda. Pusimos a la ruta el nombre del hijo de 5 años de Oskar, Elur.
