Itinerary description

Day 2: Rotwandhaus - Rotwand - Taubenstein

After breakfast, head to the Rotwand (1884 m), the highest and most popular peak in the area. It takes only 20 minutes from the hut to reach the summit, where you can admire a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains1.
From the Rotwand, you can descend to the Taubenstein (1692 m), where you can take the cable car down to the Spitzingsattel (1128 m) or hike back to Spitzingsee via the Untere Schönfeldalm. The hike takes about 3.5 hours and is mostly downhill.
Alternatively, you can extend your hike by visiting the Auerspitz (1811 m), another scenic peak that is only 30 minutes away from the Rotwand1. From there, you can either return to the Rotwandhaus or follow a different trail to the Taubenstein.
