TOUR DESCRIPTION

Starting point is the cable car "TelefériQo". The hike starts at the upper parking lots. At a metal gate, an easily accessible dirty road winds its way up in serpentines. On the right hand side there is a view of the cable car gondolas and behind us a beautiful view of Quito. The more height one gains, the narrower the path becomes and finally, from a height of 3500 m, it leads into a trail (attention, oncoming cyclists!). During the hike one passes through different vegetation zones, from extensive meadow and pasture landscapes (including cows and horses) to dense Andean forests and the Páramo from 3700 m. Only in the last third of the ascent you can see the antennas on the side of Cruz Loma. During the last metres, the path also passes an abandoned little house (approximately 3800 m). After 900 meters of altitude difference and 5 km of distance, the finish is reached at the mountain station of the "TelefériQo" (3950 m). In the "Café Cruz Loma" (right next to the mountain station) you will be served coffee and cake!

Note: The hike should be undertaken early in the morning (before the opening hours of the cable car), otherwise many downhill cyclists will be on their way. From the mountain station, a hiking trail leads to the top of Rucu Pichincha.

DESCRIPCIÓN DEL TOUR

El punto de partida es el teleférico. La caminata comienza en los estacionamientos superiores. En una puerta de metal, un camino de campo de fácil acceso va hacia arriba en serpentinas. A la derecha hay una vista de las góndolas del teleférico y detrás de nosotros una hermosa vista de Quito. Cuanto más altura se gana, más estrecho se hace el camino y finalmente, desde una altura de 3500 m, conduce a un sendero (atención, ciclistas en dirección contraria!). Durante la caminata se pasa por diferentes zonas de vegetación, desde extensos paisajes de prados y pastos (incluyendo vacas y caballos) hasta densos bosques andinos y el páramo a partir de 3700 m. Sólo en el último tercio del ascenso se pueden ver las antenas en el flanco de la montaña Cruz Loma. En los últimos metros, el camino también pasa por una casita abandonada (aproximadamente 3800 m). Después de 900 metros de diferencia de altitud y 5 km de distancia, se llega a la meta en la segunda estación del TelefériQo (3950 m). En el "Café Cruz Loma" (justo al lado de la estación) se le servirá café y pastel!

Nota: La caminata debe realizarse temprano en la mañana (antes de las horas de apertura del teleférico), de lo contrario muchos ciclistas de descenso estarán en camino. Desde la segunda estación, un sendero lleva a la cima del Rucu Pichincha.

TOURENBESCHREIBUNG

Ausgangspunkt ist die Luftseilbahn "TelefériQo". Die Wanderung beginnt bei den oberen Parkplätzen. An einem Metalltor schlängelt sich ein gut begehbarer Feldweg in Serpentinen nach oben. Dabei gibt es immer wieder rechterhand einen Blick auf die Gondeln der Seilbahn sowie hinter uns eine schöne Aussicht auf Quito. Je mehr Höhe man gewinnt, desto schmaler wird der Weg und mündet schließlich ab einer Höhe von 3500 m in einen Trampelpfad (Achtung, entgegenkommende Radfahrer!). Bei der Wanderung durchläuft man verschiedene Vegetationszonen, von ausgedehnten Wiesen- und Weiden-Landschaften (inklusive Kühen und Pferden) bis hin zu dicht gewachsenen Anden-Wäldern und dem Páramo ab 3700 m. Erst im letzten Drittel des Anstieges kann man die Antennen auf der Bergflanke des Cruz Loma erblicken. Auf den letzten Metern führt der Weg außerdem an einem verlassenen Häuschen vorbei (ca. 3800 m). Nach 900 Höhenmeter und 5 km Strecke ist das Ziel an der Bergstation der "TelefériQo" (3950 m) erreicht. Im "Café Cruz Loma" (gleich neben der Bergstation) bekommt man Kaffee und Kuchen serviert!

Hinweis: Die Wanderung sollte früh am Morgen unternommen werden (vor den Öffnungszeiten der Seilbahn), da sonst viele Downhill Fahrradfahrer unterwegs sind. Von der Bergstation führt ein Wanderpfad weiter bis auf den Gipfel des Rucu Pichincha.
