Itinerary description
Permit is necessary, issued from the City of Copiapo (2-3 days). Tourist information in down town will help you. You have to show the permit on the half way to the base camp at the police and customs control.
Rent a 4x4 car (100 US-$ per day) or take a taxi (350 US-$ on way).
6-7 hours drive by car to base camp.
At the base camp you can sleep in a small hut if there is a free place. Next to the hut you can find camping sites.
At the high camp you can sleep in a hut.
If you start at night from the high camp to the summit the trial is not easy to find.
In spring time there are some snow fields and because of them it is easy to get lost.
The last hour to the top you have to climb the ridge. There is a rope to secure.
As I can observe there is a strong wind at 11.00 am at the ridge and top.
Beware of the high attitude, be in a good condition and have a good acclimazation.

Hi.
I have already permit. Where exactly is the police station to show them the document? On the main road? What km of the road from Copiapo?
Thanks!
I didn’t show my permit to anybody. Nobody was asking for it. On the main road (I can’t remember exactly, where it is), around 1-2 hours beforehand of the junction to the groveled road, there is a checkpoint. I stopped there and was locking for the police officers. But they were not so interested. On the way back the same: I wanted tell them, that I am back. But nobody was interested or made any notes.
Many thanks!
