Ben Nevis is the largest elevation in the United Kingdom with 1345 meters above sea level. It is located at the western end of the Grampians in the Scottish region of Lochaber, near the coastal town of Fort William.
At its top are the ruins of an observatory that permanently operated between 1883 and 1904.
The most classic route for its ascent is called Pony Track ("Pony Route") that begins at Glen Nevis, a gorge on the south face of the mountain.
Its north face has cliffs over 700m high, suitable for ice climbing.
